Jonah Welch
Genderqueer,
they/them.
Jonah Welch is a 24 year-old interdisciplinary transgender artist doing work with an academic backing in queer theory, trans-feminist theory, and psychoanalytic theory. They make abstract expressionist drawings that touch on topics such as dysphoria, the body in space (urban, rural, safe, unsafe, etc.), proximity to death, melancholy, joyful embodiment, and transgender spiritual revitalization. These images come directly from lived experience, and are made explicitly for the transgender and genderqueer community. Steal from the cis, give to the trans! Jonah is a femme FtM trans person who identifies primarily as genderqueer.
Gender Unbound is an event by Gender Portraits. Gender Portraits is a sponsored nonprofit project of Austin Creative Alliance, and is supported in part by the Cultural Arts Division of the City of Austin Economic Development Department.
